🌊 Stilt Fishermen of Koggala

“Stilt men fishing — what a great time! Yes you do have to agree a price, of course they will not let you take their photos for free, after all they need to earn a living too. This is like a living museum. We went to the Stilt men in Koggala opposite the little cafe. It's not a lot of money and in return we got as many photos as we wanted and my husband even had a go. We had so much fun and they were so welcoming. Even had a bucket of clean water for us to clean our feet at the roadside. This was a great memory of our trip to Sri Lanka.”

“Located a short drive from our hotel — a chance to grab an instagrammable picture of this old Sri Lankan tradition. As far as I was aware these guys are only there for the tourists as most of the actual fishing is done early morning or late evening. We agreed a price and they were absolutely wonderful with our large group, helping each and every one of us onto the stilts to get our pictures. When we finished they washed and dried our feet and cleaned our shoes. Such warm lovely people.”

“Unique experience to get in touch with local community. I had to pay a small fee to some fishermen to take some pics, and it's fair enough, because you help them somehow. It's a unique experience, which you will understand how the poor local people used to fish and bring some money to their families. Highly recommended for culture lovers.”
